It is worth visiting:
√ The capital of the island with poetic streets, white houses hued with blue green and brown windows, splendid bougainvillea gardens, with geraniums rising next, churches, remains of the walls of the Venetian Castle of the 13th century, restaurants, cafeterias, small shops.
√ The Folklore Museum of Skopelos, housed in an old mansion, offering interesting selections of the folklore art, old settling vessels, traditional costumes.
√ The second big settlement is Glossa. The settlement has a characteristic architecture with Macedonian influences, most of the houses being two-floored with tiled roofs and wooden balconies. Its dwellers still preserve the traditional way of life, in its narrow streets women with local costumes are met. Great archaeological interest has been shown to the area due to the ancient towers, statues.
√ The beautiful little church of Aghios Yannis, where the scene of the wedding of the famous story “Mamma Mia” was shot. The tradition says that, a fisherman inhabiting the place, on his way home, every night saw a light on the top of the rock. One day, he had that dream, that a woman told him there was an icon on the top of the rock. The next day he found the icon of Aghios Ioannis.
Beaches:
Skopelos is famous for its endless crystal, blue-green waters. Some of them are:
√ Milia, perhaps the most famous one on the island.
√ Panormos, a celebrated beach, one of the most beautiful on the island. A big one, very well organized with fine pebbles and emerald waters.
√ Kastania beach in a fabulous place, became famous because parts of “Mamma Mia” were shot here. It is organized with a beach bar.
√ Stafylos, another known sandy beach, found in a lovely bay encircled by pine trees next to the town of Skopelos.
